3D geological modeling and prospectivity analysis of mineral and hydrocarbon deposits in the Yin’E-Ejinaqi Basin: Integrating multi-source geoscientific data
-
Abstract
In recent years, several oil and gas reservoirs have been discovered in the Yin’E Basin, located in the northern region of China. However, due to the complex geology and limited understanding of the region, further geological surveys and mineral exploration are necessary. This study presents the development of a three-dimensional (3D) geological interpretation and prospectivity model using multi-source geoscientific datasets, including geophysical surveys, geological mapping, and remote sensing images. These models serve as a guide for energy and mineral exploitation, producing both 2D prospectivity maps and detailed 3D geological and geophysical models, which are integrated into the SKUA-GOCADTM software. The innovative method, 3D gravity and magnetotelluric joint inversion, was employed to compute density and resistivity models. A key focus of this study is the delineation of the interface between the Mesozoic basin and the underlying Carboniferous basin, which is critical for understanding basin basement undulations. By acquiring and integrating regional magnetoelectric information with geological maps, a comprehensive 3D geological model of the region was constructed. Discrete smooth interpolation (DSI) and K-means were utilized to generate a detailed 3D basin basement and structure models. This research has established a basement model that facilitates the identification of basin-mountain structures, regional geotectonic changes, basin evolution, basin-mountain coupling relationships, metallic mineralization and the delineation of oil-bearing strata within the basin group.
